The EU has decided to launch another spate of investigations into MS business practices, justice? I hope so, maybe other software vendors can catch a bit of a break because of this.
Dang, it would seem as if Microsoft cannot catch a break in the European Union.
According to this BBC article the EU will launch not one, but two separate investigations into MS business practices.
From the article:
“The first will look at whether Microsoft unfairly ties its Explorer internet browser to its Windows operating system.
In a parallel probe, the Commission will look at the interoperability of Microsoft software with rival products.”
Bummer. The reasons for the investigations? Opera and the European Committee for Interoperable Systems complained of course!
Are their complaints warranted? I would say that any FOSS advocate would say YERS! Others might not. Losers. Suckling on the teat of mega corporations clouded their judgement!
No, not really, but still, I wonder if these investigations and possible rulings may cause other governments to take a hard look at how MS does business, or maybe even make MS look at their own business model.
I don’t think this investigation will do it, but if they get hit a few more times in the manner of their losing the lawsuit last year.
As a result of that they agreed to give third party program developers access to information that would improve interoperability with Windows, AND said they would cut fees for such information.
Soooo… “We would make the information available to you to make our operating system work better with yours, and charge you for it, only less…”
Ugh. Or is it the other way around?
