…and saw the usual “…and what the future holds…” headlines splattered randomly across magazine covers. I was absentmindedly looking for a “Linux Format” mag to see what was on the cover disk when one of these particular future tech headlines caught my eye.
I cannot remember what magazine this was, but the headline contained the word “…exoskeletons…”
I simply had to get home and google it. Lo and behold I happened on an old New Scientist Tech Blog and best of all yummy morsels – a DARPA FACT FILE covering future tech research projects.
It seems that the very technology that has been the stuff of hollywood, and of dreams for decades has slowly and steadily become reality.

What is awesome is the fine motor control the operator has over this suit. I was expecting a bulky and unwieldy piece of hardware, but obviously the technology has evolved beyond even my wildest expectations.
It still is not lighting quick and agile like you would see in i-Robot, but I am sure it will be getting there soon enough.
Apparently DARPA planned to deliver examples to the military for testing this year, I could find nothing online about that though, but I bet if examples are not already in military testing it will happen soon enough.
How far are we away from full on robotic warfare ala Robotech? Not too far I bet, ten to twenty years at most.
I am waiting for my own personal Crytec Suit. Bring it on!
