Funny that bug #1 doesn’t stress education :)

Today, just for fun, I brought my Ubuntu 8.04 desktop CD into work. I’m currently on contract with the IEC where I’m busy building ASP.NET applications… YUK! So the IEC are a hugely MS shop, mainly because they know no better. So bringing a Ubuntu CD onto MS “turf” is tantamount to sacrilege. Oh I love it!

As part of my “education” of the IEC “MS mindless,” I fired up Ubuntu off the CD and proceeded to tie Evolution into their Exchange server. Whaaaaat?! It works!

Funny how many people think that Outlook is the only client that’ll tie into Exchange? I don’t think these guys were even aware of the fact that Exchange exposes a normal (As in not some-or-other proprietary MS bull) POP and SMTP interface.

Of course they needed very badly to wipe the smug look off my face, so the question was posed, “Yeah! But what if I email you an Excel spreadsheet?” My reply was, “Do it!” Which they did :)

After shoving that in their faces it was explained to me that they’d actually got it wrong. They’d actually wanted me to create a spreadsheet in Calc and email to them. As far as they were concerned it was impossible to open a Calc spreadsheet in Excel.

I just love it when a plan comes together :D

That OpenOffice caused you virus problems is really weird.

You should pop a mail to the OpenOffice devs, and include where you downloaded from, it is really something to be checked out…
