Just a quick note, a follow-up to yesterday’s blog on the breakage Microsoft Products cause with Microsoft products if you will.

Proby (you know who you are) called me over to assist with a client’s computer today. The crux of the matter is this: Client had Office with Outlook 2003, client bought new computer and bought Office Home and Student.

Home and student comes out sans Outlook.

Right, no problem – client said that Outlook Express would suffice.

Here we come to the reason why Proby needed my express *cough* assistance. We couldn’t find a way to import the client’s old mail and contacts into Outlook Express, and it turns out there is no way to import a .pst file into Outlook Express. Yep – another MS product that is incompatible with an MS product.

We had to install Office with Outlook, and import the mails into Outlook Express before uninstalling Outlook again.

I have so much more to blather about my disappointment at these glaring holes in the Microsoft way of doing things…
