I guess that after all the Microsoft Bashing I have been doing these last two posts I need to focus on something else for a change.

See, the time is arriving where geeks all over the world are getting ready to drool over the next release of Ubuntu. Yes Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 is available for download. In fact a disk is lying on the couch next to me ready and waiting.

And I don’t want to install it.

Since Hardy Heron I have been burned a few times. Colleagues of mine have been burned. Issues in need of resolution have been left unresolved.

Now far be it from me to critique the hard work that all the volunteers and full time contributors to the Ubuntu distribution have been putting in, I raise my hat gents, but something is amiss.

Every version of Ubuntu I have installed before Hardy Heron has left me giddy with excitement, gushing over new features and filled with glee at the lack of breakage that epitomized everything that was Ubuntu.

Sadly Hardy shattered my dream. This week Network Manager 7 was unleashed on the masses and broke a colleagues already dodgy network support spectacularly.

Enter Interpid. It is due for full release in October of this year – and I am already asking myself if I should start looking forward to it. Dare I dream? Watch this space for a review of Intrepid Alpha 2, and let us find out if we dare dream again…
