It is strange how the human psyche works. Ever since having children I have been deeply affected by the fate of children across the world. Even seeing a suffering child on the news has begun to upset me more than usual.

Not that I did not care before, but since becoming a husband and a father it has become a …personal issue.

An event that is deeply touching me at this moment is the story of the so called spam king killing his wife and 3 year old daughter.

I am purposefully not linking to the story – google it or visit Slashdot if you want.

The point I am trying to get to is the effect that work or circumstantial pressures have on us. Being in IT places me in the first line of people bad tempers. If stuff don’t work me or one of my colleagues get yelled at.

IT guys take strain – serious strain – on a daily basis. We as a group are responsible for what makes the world tick, and we take flack when the wheels come off. I can fully understand that this guy snapped. Many IT guys go to the edge – I have been there.

What price quality of life then?

Is it worth stretching your everuthing to the max for someone else’s stuff? Do we really reap the benefit of our hard work, or do we empower others to have better quality of life?

And I think a good quality of life transcends salary.

end ramble here.
