…apparently.

I called Microsoft today, and chatted to one of their callcenter staff. I love chatting with their staff, they are bright individuals and they always help me quickly and effectively.

That said – I needed to download something from their site today, and the lady on the phone was walking me through the site to get me to the download page.

MS: “Please click on Internet Explorer”

Me: “Uh, I can’t”

MS: “You can’t even click on Internet Explorer? Should I put you through to tech support?”

Me: “No, I am running Linux and want to use Firefox – do I need IE to access your site?”

MS: “Yes sir. Firefox doesn’t work.”

Me: “Why not? Does Firefox have issues?”

MS: “Yes sir. People using firefox have issues… they cannot access sites – they cannot see text when they type it in to boxes…”

Me: “How so? Is it with the Microsoft site, or is it with the whole internet?”

MS: “Yes – sometimes we have to let people type things into text boxes on the internet and with Firefox it doesn’t work”

Me: “Ah, so this is with Microsoft’s site only, or is it with the whole internet?”

MS: “Yes..” pause “…it’s with Microsoft’s site only.”

Me: “Oh – interesting… well let’s see if Firefox works…”

So I had a little fun. I fired up IE on a desktop next to me, and true’s bob both Firefox and IE worked faultlessly. I could even type in text into a text box when the MS consultant asked me to do so. While using Firefox, on Linux…

Oh well…
