If you haven’t done so already, read this series from the FIRST INSTALLMENT, HERE.

I discovered something really neat, Gnome-Shell lets you record .ogg video of your desktop!

Yeah, via SHIFT+CTRL+ALT+R you can record your desktop and share the video for all to see.

Guess what I just did…

Desktop Recordings

I decided to end my fifth day with Gnome-Shell with some video of basic things I have blogged about in the previous days. I am not going to type a lot, save for a short description of what is going on in each video.

So without further ado:

Activities Menu

The first shows the activities menu. Move your mouse to the top left of the desktop and you will be presented with a view of your desktop, and other things like your folders and recent applications.

Note that I have a terminal open, but minimized. As soon as I open the Activites menu all my windows appear, in this case the minimized terminal.

Notifications

This one shows notifications, and that you can access the latest ones by moving your mouse to the bottom right of the screen. Not all notifications are clickable though. I think the idea here was to go for unintrusive, hence the notifications disappear rather quickly, but they are not intrusive enough, if you understand what I mean.

Applications Menu

Here I show the Applications Menu. To get there you first have to activate the Activities Menu, and then the Applications Menu. Although the applications icons are nice and big, there is a sore need for better arrangement of these applications.

Alt+Tab Navigation

Here I show basic ALT+TAB navigation. Note how where multiple windows of the same program is open you can navigate to each individually via your arrow keys.

Summary

Let me know if you want better quality youtube videos. For Linux users there is a special treat, below is a .zip of all the full resolution videos in .ogg format!

Enjoy, and tomorrow, the Gnome-Shell cheatsheet!
