Snippets for 9 Sept!
Yesterday Google launched instant search. There is some buzz online about what this will mean for adwords and rankings, and I think all the doom prophets miss one thing – Google has a vested interest in improving the performance of their service, so wait out any shift in the performance of the business and look for ways to gain extra advantage out of the new service. Adwords and other Google money-makers will not perform worse – I know enough of big corp to strongly believe in them NOT killing the goose… you know. Golden eggs and all…

Google Instant keeps the search giant at the head of the pack
Google Instant Search has arrived. The UK Telegraph has a short writeup of it. For those of you in countries where it is not supported yet, here’s the how to check it out for yourself.
Go to your Google page, and if you are redirected to a .co.uk, co.za or other region specific Google page click on the “Go to Google.com” link at the bottom of your Google page. When redirected, sign into iGoogle with your Google username and password, and then if redirected to your iGoogle page click “Go to Google Classic.”
Once there Google Instant Search should work for you! Seeing your results pop up while you type is kinda awesome.

Microsoft given legal help to take-down botnets
Horrible as I think the Microsoft Software Ecosystem is, I believe they need assistance with taking down the botnets that make use of the fertile breeding ground said Microsoft Software Ecosystem provides.
Some help came Microsofts way when they were given legal ownership of a bunch of domains that hosted (or controlled) waledac botnets.
Now they can shut down those domains and servers and at least get some of the scum off the streets.

With the Verizon-Bing deal, has Microsoft found a chink in Google’s Android armor?
In July we bought you a story that Yahoo Japan might be using Google instead of Bing.
Now news is that Verizon is going to use Bing instead of Google for its Android devices. What is worse than offering an inferior service to their customers is that the Microsoft services – also including Bing maps instead of Google Maps – is baked into the phones firmware.
Dear Verizon, you suck. That is all.

1 in 4 Internet users gives fake name online
Proof that 25% of Internet users give at least a cursory thought to online privacy when using the Internet and associated services.
For many subscription services I use a false name, maybe one of many. Often this is accompanied with a specially created and crafted e-mail address.
Given my dim opinion of Norton, I will reserve comment on the quality of an article that bases their statistics on a survey by a company that makes one of the worst Antivirus Suites known to man.
