Today In Computer History
September 28, 1925
If ever a Terminator Robot bursts through your front door remember this day. Besides 28 September being international Ask a Stupid Question Day, today is also the day Seymour Cray was born. Widely regarded as the father of supercomputing, and one day as the guy who made Skynet possible, he co-founded Control Data Corporation in the 1950’s
He died via T888 assasination in an automobile accident in 1996.

US Government Plans To Wiretap Facebook, Twitter and Skype
Dear Yanks. You brought this on yourselves. Regards, TheSaGeek.
Now, to expand on that one-liner:
The US government is planning (read WILL) snoop on the private online activities of their citizens. The proposed bill includes stipulations that all software must have a means to allow interception built into the software.
Right, that’s me NEVER hosting a server in the US. Ever.
Have a nice day Yankland, and say hi to Uncle Sam for me, he’s looking over your shoulder right now.

(And Onsoftware – note that “Wiretap” is a particularly unfortunate choice of term in this case.)
US Runs Practice Cyber Attack – Analysts root for underdog
On the topic of Uncle Sam checking your junk out online, the US ran “Cyber Storm III.”
Yeah, given that this is the third installment of this exercise and that the Chinese are still routinely causing alarm bells to go off in the Pentagon I’d say they should start trying harder than what they already are…
Anyhow, News24 has the story.
Facebook Movie and Comic Book to be Released
Mark Zuckerberg is about to be made public. If that sentence seems odd, I did that on purpose. The man who doesn’t care much for the privacy of his users does not like the idea of a movie to be made about him.
He is known as an intensely private person, and dislikes the limelight.
Well now there is the movie, and, wait for it – a comic book. Yep, we are gonna be given some insight into the life of Mark Zuckerberg via those most reliable resources – Hollywood and Comic Books.
Nice.
Facebook Film Story. (We accidentally linked to the wrong story here. Corrected the link to an excellent Daily Maverick piece that summarizes the Zuckerberg/Facebook Movie deal nicely – Q)
BlackBerry Unveils Playbook Tablet To Rival iPad
Another day, another tablet.
Given that this is RIM we are talking about I can’t say I am overly impressed. RIM is known to sell out the interests of their users to governments around the world, so awesome as any product they launch might be I’d rather have a Siemens S10 than a BlackBerry thanks.
Also, given that I had the opportunity to play with the new Samsung Galaxy Tab last night I think I have found my personal tablet favorite.

Thousands of internet porn users have personal details leaked online
Wow. So a law firm has been snarfing peoples details via “Anti Piracy Software” and then blows its payload (ahem) of personal details all over the Internet due to a cyber attack.
Nice.
Downside is that while we may guffaw at the lawfirm, there are many upset households in the UK right now.
Dailymail has the story.
Microsoft dumps its blogging platform
Long and short – Spaces will be running Wordpress soon.
