Nice article and some very valid points. However, at first I didn't like the Disqus plugin, for the simple reason that there wasn't an option to comment anonymously. I run a blog all about marijuana (not tech), and it's important for users to be able to leave comments anonymously without having to facebook connect etc. I now see that there is a guest posting option available, which is great! I think it's about time to try it out :)

I do agree Disqus isn't without fault but after implementing Disqus in www.mobileoswars.co.za i saw an increase in comments as many of the tech blog readers out there have a disqus account. They have a Disqus account mainly due to the fact that they have dropped comments on the major tech-blogs like techcrunch.com which uses the disqus comment system.

Also The Disqus comment system promotes blog trust as many of the high traffic tech blogs have the the Disqus comments system implemented so to tech readers its a familiar friend.

The good far outweigh the bad...

Yes, and Disqus also breaks your comment system on your blog. I had to remove it. WP Comments is good enough for most blogs.

The only problem with disqus commenting system is that you no longer actually control the comments. Sure it looks like it, they give you the ability, but you are still being controlled by a 3rd party. Using your blog's comments system, you are in full control of the comments, and therefore the content. I'd much rather be in that position, than have disqus hold my friends' comments ransom one day.
